Icons and illustrations

Icons and illustrations can be used to visualise text or bring structure to your design. A wide variety of icons and illustrations have been produced for VTT. Feel free to mix, match and modify existing illustrations, and use them as a basis for new designs.

Icons

Our icons are simple and based on an outline graphic style, without fill. Strive for clarity and good contrast ratio, and use VTT colours systematically. Check the accessible colour combinations here.

Illustrations

An illustration can take us beyond real life and photographs. We use flat vector illustrations with high degree of abstraction to create simple yet impactful visuals. Whenever possible, get inspiration from the shapes and forms used in our patterns. Simple geometric shapes, such as rectangles, circles and triangles, form the basis of our patterns, and therefore illustrative storytelling. Facial expressions are not used.

Use VTT brand colours and tints systematically. A single shape or surface has mainly one colour, but use multiple colours in the illustration to create strong contrasts. Avoid monochromatic illustrations and use of only one colour and its tints.

Avoid gradients and textured surfaces. We don't use cartoonish, hand drawn or line art illustrations.

Infographics and charts

Our infographics and charts should be as simple as possible. Strive for clarity and good contrast ratio, and use VTT colours and tints systematically. Use flat charts and avoid effects, shadows and textures. When creating infographics and large visualisations, use also white in background to balance and freshen up the design. Prefer black text on light backgrounds and white on darker surfaces.
